Frequently Asked Questions
What is the subconscious mind?
The subconscious mind houses your beliefs, experiences, memories, skills, and controls bodily functions such as regulating your breathing and heart rate. The main goal of the subconscious mind is to maintain homeostasis (i.e, keep you safe and in your comfort zone). This is the reason why so many people struggle with change. Even if you consciously understand that the change you are trying to make is positive - the subconscious mind labels the change as a threat, causing you to feel resistance. Your subconscious mind is responsible for your behavior and decisions about 95% of the time. In order to make real, lasting changes in your life, you have to rewrite the script in your subconscious mind. Hypnotherapy is a proven method to help you change the programming in your subconscious mind that no longer serves you, so you can successfully achieve your goals.
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural state that we all enter multiple times per day. It is an altered state of the mind noted by a high degree of suggestibility, where communication with the subconscious mind is achieved.
How effective is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy can be very effective for a wide variety of issues. According to the Mayo Clinic, “hypnosis can be used to help you gain control over undesired behaviors or to help you cope better with anxiety or pain.” Many medical studies have been published on the benefits and applications of hypnotherapy, including the benefits for weight loss/management, stress relief, and smoking cessation. Hypnosis increases your ability to change because it allows you to be more open and receptive to new ideas. In the hypnotic state, you are more likely to access deeper levels of information to help you identify the root cause of an issue and find an effective solution that will be tailored to your specific needs. It is possible to more easily change negative thought patterns, habits, and emotional triggers. A study reported by the American Health Magazine states that hypnosis is more effective and works more quickly than traditional talk therapy and psychoanalysis.
Am I controlled by the hypnotherapist?
Absolutely not. You are in control 100% of the time while you are in a state of hypnosis. No hypnotherapist can ever force anyone to do or say anything against their will. You will be fully alert throughout your entire session. You will only accept those suggestions that you wish to accept.
What if I can’t be hypnotized?
Don’t worry, everyone can be hypnotized if they so desire because it is a natural state we all enter. You will have your own unique experience during your sessions; there is no “wrong” way to experience it.
What does hypnosis feel like?
A hypnotherapy session can be described as a spa treatment for your mind. It is a very relaxing and empowering experience. It feels similar to a deep meditation or daydream that is focused on turning your greatest ambitions into your reality. Laura’s clients often tell her how calm, relaxed, and hopeful they feel after their sessions.
Are sessions in-person or virtual?
All sessions are remote and held via Zoom. You will additionally receive an audio recording of each of your hypnotherapy sessions. You can schedule your sessions to fit into your personal schedule from the comfort of your own home, saving you the hassle of driving through traffic.
What can be accomplished with hypnotherapy?
Any issue in which your mind plays a role can be helped with hypnotherapy - so really, the sky is the limit!
Will I need a doctor’s referral before starting?
If you are hiring a coach/hypnotherapist for anything that is considered vocational/avocational self-improvement, then you do not need a medical referral. If you are seeking a hypnotherapist for any issue that may have a possible medical etiology, then a medical referral will be required. If you are still unsure, Laura will discuss this with you during your free consultation.
